A linguistic guide to the two-year old

Ad-ada-aa-yeeOne piece of preparing for the birth of the second child is passing off temporary responsibility for the first child to a relative or close friend. In preparation we've prepared a dictionary of Theo'isms.


  • Aa-ti: airplane
  • A-BOOM: crash
  • Ack: cookie or cracker
  • Ack-tor: tractor
  • A-diss: bus
  • Agin-agin: I love you
  • Ah mama: Holy Mother
  • Ah-ah-vee: sports utility vehicle or minivan
  • Ah-mah/Ahtmah/Ma-mack: soymilk (which he likes) or oatmeal (which he doesn't)
  • Ah-UH, Ah-UH: give me (not to be encouraged)
  • Ank-ay: thank you
  • A-poo: sneeze
  • Ba hoo ha/Boo-bah: I'm silly
  • Baba-baba: train
  • Baba-pub: pickup truck
  • Baby: any child 0-7 years old
  • Ball: ball
  • Ba-poo: Winnie the Pooh ™
  • Baybow: rainbow
  • Beep-beep: traffic jam
  • Bop: boat
  • Bowl: bowl
  • Bub-bup: truck
  • Bup: Cup (or chip)
  • Butt butt: buttocks
  • Cheeese: thinly-sliced American cheese (Deitz & Watson or Land o'Lakes)
  • Da-da?: what's that?
  • Da-da-dah!: goodbye (usu. accomp. by waving hands)
  • Di-di-cle or Didycle-dadada: bicycle (bicycle papa)
  • Dish/Gish: fish
  • Duckin/Duggin: duck (esp. rubber duck)
  • Eeeb (or eeb-eeb): pig
  • Eee-eee-bee: mouse
  • El-boah: elbow
  • Eye: eye
  • Fuf! Fuf!: windshield wipers (usu. accompanied by hand motions)
  • Gla-as-tho: eyeglasses
  • Glee-lah: kitty cat
  • Googagh: Jesus (sounds very Yiddish, like "chala" only with a G at beginning)
  • Googush: toothbrush (sometimes hair brush)
  • Guh (gutteral): car or shoe
  • Ha-ha-hor: helicopter
  • Hahm: Car- and bus-driving protagonist of "My Car"
  • Hat: hat or bicycle helmet
  • Hee-ah: toy link chain
  • Hi: hi
  • Hoop!: soup
  • Hot: something hot or coffee
  • House: house
  • Knee: knee
  • Lala: flower or butterfly
  • Mah-een: Martin
  • Mama: mother
  • Me: me
  • Moooh-AH: cow
  • Neenah/Nana: grandmother Liz
  • N-guhn!: all done!
  • Off: light switch or on or off
  • Oh-bee-ee: frog
  • Papa: father
  • Pee-pee: The male organ or urination
  • Peesh: please
  • People: people
  • Po: potty or bathroom
  • Roaaahrah: monster, lion or tiger
  • Sheeps: shapes
  • Sop: soap
  • Tee-oh: Theo

  • Tie: tile or sometimes wall
