Just Found: Jesus Radicals

“Jesus Radicals”:http://www.jesusradicals.com/, they’re hosting a summer conference in a NYC Quaker meetinghouse called “Engaging the Powers: Christianity, Anarchism and Social Change.” The speakers don’t sound as interesting as I hoped they would, but it’s certainly interesting to see a group making these sorts of connections.

I'm wondering if they are using Walter Wink's terms deliberately? I love Walter Wink's book of the same name - "Engaging the Powers" (http://www.walterwink.com/, http://www.bridges-across.org/ba/powers/). I used the search facility here on your site but was interested that I didn't find any references to Wink.
Wink's translations of scripture and his biblical scholarship have really helped me connect with Scripture. He presents the Gospel message of fundamentally transformative nonviolence, the way in which G-d has broken/is breaking the Domination System, in a way that makes my heart sing! He writes about how Christ Jesus' ministry to women was essential in the Gospel message and I have found few other contemporary theologians who have such a zingy lucid understanding of Christ's message.
I don't identify with "anarchist" now as I did when I was a teenager - I am trying to get into Gospel order Quaker discernment. After some struggling I am now willing to test the felt leadings of Christ with my fellow believers. It seems like an equally large hurdle to find elders or others in my local meeting who are prepared to participate in discernment or clearness processes. I'm attempting not to be a ranter too, and I'm sitting in the body of the meeting. ;)
Thanks for this site.
