Shuttering up Nonviolence.org

In a move sure to be a surprise no one, I'm shuttering up my Nonviolence.org site. Sure it's a great domain, sure it still gets more traffic than all of my other sites combined, but I just don't have the time to keep it going in any kind of coherent way. It's always surprised me that I could never get substantive financial support for a project that has reached millions. It seems particularly ironic to shut it down in the midst of one of the longest wars in U.S. history.

For those wanting good activist news, the Dave the Quaker Agitator is always on top of current events and the Fellowship of Reconciliation's new'ish group blog at FORPeace.net is a great addition to the peace blogging scene. Archive posts from Nonviolence.org have been migrated here to the Ranter.

That's really disappointing Martin. I am sorry it wasn't something that more people got behind.

I just learned about nonviolence.org from the Blossoming Lotus cookbook. Sorry I learned about you so late. I, too, work for nonviolence in all human interactions - especially positive parenting and the rights of the child to nonviolent "discipline."
I wish you the best and am amazed that so many people remain passive regarding peace and thoughtful caring for all levels of our world.

@Wess: the major disappointment happened years ago, I've long ago gotten over the grief state of anger (and long ago negotiated down the major credit card debt that denial helped ring up as I tried to keep Nonviolence.org going full time in the late 90s). It's actually a relief to not have the guilt of the site--over the last few years it's been the most neglected of my sites.

@Madeleine: well, I think we can trust that any real movement toward nonviolence will continue without this one website. I think it quite likely that my own writing about peace will be freed now that I don't feel the need to write about only the "important" issues.
