Click on any of the pictures above for captions, etc. Here's the photoset of our whole trip. Apologies to all the Theo fans (you know who you are) for not getting these up sooner.
Once upon a time Julie saved up for a family trip to Disneyworld. Detailed planning began over a year before the trip, only to be disrupted when we learned we were going to have another child, due out when we'd be on vacation! Plans were quickly revised and two weeks after the pregnancy was confirmed we were on board a plane to Orlando. It was the second week in January, a time when the parks were practically empty and a little Theo could ride Dumbo over and over again.

Theo looks like he was having a blast. What a sweetie! He's got great blue eyes, too.
By the way, I noticed Julie wearing DISNEY t-shirts! Are Mickey Mouse ears on a t-shirt acceptable for plain dress (or does Julie not wear plain dress - OOOPS). :)
I knew someone was going to ask. We weren't the paragons of plain for the trip. Partly it was the weather (we were surprised by what passes for a heat wave for a Floridian January) but it was also wanting a vacation from the serious.
One awkward moment came when we found ourselves standing in line behind two couples who were dressed in some sort of Mennonite/Brethren plain. I wanted to go up to them but what would I have said: "Plain dress, cool, I dress plainly, well normally I do, well now I'm not, well you know it's Disney World, but yes you're right you're didn't dumb your dressing down to shorts and a Mickey tshirt, umm.., umm., well nice weather we're having hmmm?, enjoy the ride."
About time, you guys. I mean, I've only mentioned to Martin a couple of times that I'd love to see these pictures. What a cutie!
Well my feeling about it is that there's absolutely nothing plain about WDW, so dressing plain there doesn't necessarily make that much sense. Dressing plain says (among other things), "I'm not a part of the mass consumer culture," yet being at WDW says (at least to some degree), "Bring it on! Tower of Terror AGAIN, yeah!!!" It is, after all, a symbol of all that is America and capitalist, isn't it? And yet, it's so much fun! Strangely, though I didn't necessarily stand out at all, I was certainly dressed "simply" compared to many... (Oh, and by the way, the Mickey Mouse shirt was actually my mother's. I'm assuming it's probably the one she got when she and my dad took me down on my first trip to Disney World in 1979. It would've been ridiculous NOT to bring it or wear it. WDW was one of my mom's very favorite places, where life's troubles could be forgotten.)
