@Laurie: I remember hearing Wilmer complain one time that he wanted to write one book and his publisher wanted another, which might account for the awkward fit between what "Growing Up Plain" promises and what it delivers. "The Eye of Faith" isn't exactly a memoir but Bill's history has a good eye for the kind of detail that illuminates a larger truth and I got the distinct impression that he was writing history as a gentle reminder to the present of both the promises and pitfalls of the Conservative path.

This book seems like something for me to check out, as well. I read Wilmer Cooper's "Growing Up Plain," which didn't have the sense of true "history" I was looking for. It was really about Cooper's own journey, which is fine, but I suppose I wanted to know more about the Conservative Quaker movement overall, as well as more about Barnesville in the present. Sounds like a good read.

Field research! Abbey, I have this image of you with a shovel in the darkest hours of the night digging through Fran Taber's flower garden looking for that capsule! Probably not what you were offering?
There's certainly lots of field research to be done in those musty old journals, in long talks with friends, in prayer and faithfulness.

As a Barnesville native/old neighbor of Bill Taber's/blossoming Quaker, I'm in the perfect position to do some field research for you.
