Why would a Christian be involved with a worldly organization? Even going so far as to wear a US flag on their sleeve. I’m sure I’m reading too much into this, but it seems a bit odd.
Yes, you are reading too much into it. There are many reasons why cub scouts aren’t an ideal organization but for a home-schooled non-athletic eight year old in a semi-rural area it’s a rare opportunity for socialization. Given the strong faith of the family, I doubt an arm patch is going to send him into the arms of worldly sin.
